DAVAO DEL NORTE, March 10 (PIA) - - The
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Davao del Norte donated recently eight
weighing scales to the City Government of Tagum, which will posted in different
areas in the city’s public market.
Romeo Castañaga, provincial director of DTI,
said that the weighing scales as Timbangan ng Bayan in Tagum City will serve as
inspection tools for consumers to check if the mass of the product that they
bought is equivalent to the amount they paid.
“These scales will persuade the people to be
more vigilant and to exercise their rights as consumers,” Castañaga said.
He said that the consumers may complain to the
City Market Administrator on weekdays or Safety Management Officer on duty
during weekends or holidays if they found that there is inconsistency in the
seller’s weighing scale.
Castañaga added that the local government unit
can confiscate the seller’s scale if despite warnings, it will still be
defective.
“The LGU can also penalize the vendor
depending on their local policies,” he said.
He added that the consumers can also file
their complaints at the Consumer Welfare and Trade Regulation Division of DTI –
Davao del Norte located at Capitol Compound, Mankilam, Tagum City with
telephone number (084) 216-3505 or (084) 216-2309.
During the turn-over, the city government of
Tagum and DTI based in this province also inked an agreement for the Timbangan
ng Bayan.
In the Memorandum of Agreement, the DTI
entrusted the responsibility to maintain and secure the scales to the city
government.
