DTI establishes 12 SSFs

DAVAO CITY, Mar. 19 – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region was able to establish 12 Shared Service Facility (SSF) projects in 2014.

The SSF project of DTI is aimed at improving the quality and productivity of entrepreneurs by addressing the gaps and bottlenecks in the value chain of priority industry clusters through the provision of processing machines/equipment/tools for the common use of the identified beneficiaries.

The said projects, which totalled P6.303 million, assisted 276 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and generated 1,416 jobs.

Each project costs between P165,000 up to P965,000. Most of these projects benefitted by MSMEs in handicrafts, coco coir, organic fertilizer, meat, banana, coffee, organic rice, abaca, and bamboo crafts.

DTI-Davao Region reported that since it started the SSF project in 2013, the agency has already established a total of 46 SSFs, assisted 1,206 MSMEs, and generated 3,261 job opportunities.

DTI-Davao Region Officer-in-Charge Maria Belenda Q. Ambi said that through this particular intervention, MSMEs are given the opportunity to improve their productivity.

“This is DTI’s initiative towards helping those MSMEs who have no access to necessary facilities and equipment because they don’t have the capacity to buy their own,” she said.

For this year, DTI is set to establish 19 SSFs.

Apart from SSF, DTI has been active in implementing various interventions that are geared toward the development of local entrepreneurs. One of these is the conduct of SME Roving Academy (SMERA) trainings on product development, capacity-building, among others.

In 2014, DTI-Davao Region was able to conduct 326 SMERA trainings which benefitted 10,629 MSMEs, potential entrepreneurs, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) beneficiaries, farmers/beneficiaries in Typhoon Pablo-affected areas, senior citizens, and persons with disability (PWDs).
