LGU leaders to support GSP DavNor Council

DAVAO  DEL NORTE,  March 23 (PIA)--- Local chief executives (LCEs) in covered areas of  Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Davao del Norte Council expressed continued support as the Council marked its 44th year founding anniversary last Saturday.

Incoming GSP Davao del Norte Council President Luz Pereyras (for triennium 2015-2018) revealed during the occasion that governors Roldolfo P. del Rosario of Davao del Norte and Arturo T. Uy  of Compostela Valley each had committed to  shell out for the  Council P250,000 for its operation expenses.

Organized in 1971, the GSP Davao del Norte Council covers  the provinces of Davao del Norte  and Compostela Valley which was then part of the undivided Davao del Norte Province.  Compostela Valley was carved out of the province 17 years ago in 1998.

“So we really  need to include Compostela Valley in our letterhead,”  Pereyras said during her  acceptance speech to emphasize inclusion of Comval area in the Council  and to recognize the support of Comval LGU.

She also revealed plans of Davao del Norte Provincial Gov. Rodolfo P. del Rosario to donate a three-hectare lot near the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex for GSP Davao del Norte Council.

Meanwhile, she said she got  the nod of Tagum City Mayor Allan L. Rellon to fund the setting up of a girl scout statue side by side with that of a boy scout at the Energy Park (in Barangay Apokon) opened for GSP and Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) camping activities.

Rellon confirmed this in a separate interview and even revealed his equal allotment for  the activities and projects of Tagum City-based GSP and BSP councils.

On the other hand,  Pereyras also appealed to LGU executives and even to private sector entities to sponsor the Girl Scout membership fee of elementary school girls. She made the request due to the prohibition of the Department of Education (DepEd) to impose any fees upon enrolment, giving no exemption to Girl Scouts.  (Jeanevive D. Abangan, PIA XI)
