Diploma & courage leads to success

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, March 12 (PIA) ---  Armed only with a diploma and determination to succeed,    he ventured Mindanao with no specific destination  after graduating from college. He now becomes a well-respected personality in the community of Tagum.

Described by City of Tagum Mayor Allan Rellon as a “simple barrio man from Arayat, Pampanga”, Dr.  Pedro B. San Jose has gone  far and wide through mere courage and a diploma  to become the first recipient of the “Estorya ng  Tagumpay” Award given him by  the city government of Tagum during the recent Tagumpay Excellence Awards  and Recogntion Night.

In his message during the awards night, 89 years of age San Jose shared his faith  and courage to rise from  scratch  and to become a figure to reckon with in academe and public service sectors in the city of Tagum.

“I was born poor but that did not discourage me to work hard to succeed. Being poor made me stronger,”   he said in narrating the story of his success  during the awards night.

During his early years in Mindanao, he first found his luck at work in Cotabato then he left for Davao City where he became a teacher in Havardian College and was later promoted as dean.

Then he transferred to Mindanao College, now the University of Mindanao where he currently holds the position as executive vice president for Academic Affairs.

San Jose had a short stint in politics as vice governor of Davao del Norte from 1995-1998 but he has spent most of his life in the academe.

After persevering to achieve his goals, he now commits his life to take  the direction towards helping others “especially the young people to develop themselves.”

Beyond thanking the city government of Tagum for recognizing his contribution to the city’s growth and development, San Jose recognized God, saying “without God, I can do nothing.”

“This award is a true gift for I did not expect anything in return for all the things I did,” he said.  “I thank God for making me the person I am today,” he added.

He counted among the factors of his success his faith in God, his prayerful life, positive thinking and good family life.  (Jeanevive Duron-Abangan, PIA 11)
