DEL NORTE, November 4 (PIA) - - Davao del Norte bested other provinces in the
region in the conduct of TreeVolution 2014.
This
was stressed yesterday (November 3) by Jose Salvador, senior forest management
specialist of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) based
on this province, during the Monday convocation of the provincial government
held at Bulwagan ng Lalawigan, Tagum City.
According
to the TreeVolution report, Davao del Norte accomplished the highest rating of
82% among the provinces in the region in the conduct of simultaneous tree planting
in one hour in multiple locations.
Other
provinces have the following rate – Davao Oriental with 74%, Compostela Valley
with 69% and Davao del Sur with 50%.
Salvador
added that out of the target 371,600 trees to be planted in 701 hectares, the
province accomplished 306,541 trees in 572 hectares or about 82.49%.
He
emphasized that during the planning of the TreeVolution, Davao del Norte was
allotted with 18% share of the seedlings, but during the actual planting, the
province realized 22% of the region’s number of seedlings planted.
He
also disclosed that the province shared 7% of the total tree planted in the
entire Mindanao.
Salvador
expressed the gratitude of the DENR to the provincial government headed by Gov.
Rodolfo del Rosario and to all the volunteers from Davao del Norte for the
success of the TreeVolution.
He
said that the tree planted will be maintained by the partner people’s
organization in the designated areas, who will receive P-2,000 per hectare per
year for a period of three years as additional incentive.
According
to the report, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) consolidated and
packaged the TreeVolution result in accordance with the requirements of the
Guinness World Record, which was submitted last month. (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
