TAGUM CITY, Nov 11 (PIA) An official of the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 11 assured that all drugs confiscated in
buy-bust operations in Davao del Norte are all accounted for.
Speaking the Biz talk at the Big 8
Corporate Hotel, Joel Plaza, assistant director of the PDEA 11 said seized
drugs are placed under the accounting of the agency’s custodian.
He said other seized drugs are used as pieces
of evidence against drug offenders and are under the custody of the courts.
Plaza brushed aside speculation that seized
substances are being recycled and are sold to the communities.
“The PDEA would not allow reselling of seized
drugs to the people,” he pointed out.
Plaza said there is no shabu laboratory in
Davao del Norte and all drugs come from outside sources.
He said the police focus more on drugs sold on
the streets while the PDEA runs after the sources like the recent bust in
Kalingan, Bukidnon where 1.3 kilograms of shabu was confiscated and arrested
five respondents.
Plaza said no children are used in the illegal
transaction in Davao del Norte.
He said that in some areas juveniles are used
in the trafficking of drugs.
“Drug syndicates use approaches where our law
are weak like the use of the young in trafficking. With the assistance of
the Social Welfare, we can determine that the youth acted with awareness of
their act, so we can arrest them,” Plaza said.
Plaza said drug offenders in the province are
just involved in using and selling.
He said drug trade is usually concentrated in
the city where there is a large number of population.
Plaza revealed that 52 barangays in the
province are affected by drugs due to the presence of users and sellers.
