CRUZ, Davao del Sur (PIA) – Ten women tour guides from Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur
were trained on Mt. Apo Ecoguiding this week at Shark Beach Resort in Digos
City.
The
training is designed to develop young adventurous women to be actively involved
in the emerging tour guiding industry within the Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP).
It
will also be a guiding interpretation in the natural/cultural areas and nature-based
activities in MANP.
A
total of 35 participants completed the four-day training on November 17-20, ten
of them came from the municipality of Sta. Cruz while the rest were from Digos
City and the municipality of Bansalan.
It
was assisted by the USAID-funded Biodiversity and Watershed Improved for
Stronger Economy and Ecosystems Resilience (B+WISER).
The
participants were trained on various areas and fields of specialization that
will lead them through their career in tour guiding.
The
course included the following fields: Overview of Philippine Tourism,
Indigenous Communities and Cultures of the People of Mt. Apo, Sustainable
Tourism and Ecology, MANP Flora and Fauna, and Introduction to Guest Relation
and Reception.
Other
topics were on: Effective Customer Service and Work Values Formation, Duties
and Responsibilities of Tour Guide, Preparing Tour itinerary and Conducting
Tour Commentary, First Aid and Basic Life Support, Basic Mountaineering Course,
Wilderness Emergencies and Jungle Survival and Land Navigation and
