Palace joins nation in celebrating Manny Pacquiao's victory over Chris Algieri

Malacañang joined the entire Filipino nation Sunday in celebrating Sarangani Representative Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao’s victory against American Chris Algieri following their World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight match in Macau.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. praised the “strength, grit, and courage” demonstrated by Pacquiao throughout the fight en route to a convincing win over his younger and taller opponent at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena.

“With every punch that scored, millions of Filipinos cheered him to victory from all corners of the country and the world,” Coloma said in a statement sent to reporters, shortly after learning that Pacquiao emerged as the victor.

Algieri proved to be no match for Pacquiao as all three judges who oversaw the fight rendered a lopsided decision in favor of the latter, scoring 120-102, 119-103, and 119-103 respectively.

Coloma called Pacquiao “a worthy role model and wellspring of inspiration to all Filipinos, who are striving to improve their well-being and attain a prosperous future.”

“Congressman Manny Pacquiao embodies and personifies the Filipinos’ outstanding qualities—audacious, tenacious and conscientious—persevering in advancing a worthy cause, and unwavering even in the face of danger and adversity,” Coloma said.

Pacquiao’s victory over Algieri extends his winning streak to three over the last 12 months. It was also his 57th win in his 19-year professional boxing career. ,(PCOO News Release)
