APEC leaders agree to cooperate in ensuring food security

President Benigno S. Aquino III, together with fellow leaders attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Beijing, China endorsed the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders' Declaration on APEC Food Security issued during the Third APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security.

"We welcome the APEC Action Plan for Reducing Food Loss and Waste, the APEC Food Security Business Plan (2014-2020), the APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2020 (version 2014), and the Action Plan to Enhance Connectivity of APEC Food Standards and Safety Assurance," the leaders said in the declaration.

The leaders also called on APEC economies to seek a common ground to build an open, inclusive, mutually beneficial, and all-win partnership for the long-term food security of the Asia-Pacific region.

"We will strengthen APEC agricultural science and technology innovation and cooperation to advance sustainable agricultural development," they said in the declaration. (PCOO News Release)
