Through Presidential Proclamation Number 675 last July 10,
2004, the whole month of September had been declared as the Peace Month. Now on
its 11th year, the proclamation is a way of calling the Philippine Government,
Civic Society Groups, People’s Organizations and Non-government Agencies to
work altogether for Peace and to sustain it.
Col. Victor J. Tan, Deputy Brigade Commander of 701st
Infantry Brigade Philippine Army, lauded the provincial government’s
partnership with peace stakeholders in helping the country achieve its vision
to have peaceful and progressive communities.
He said Davao Oriental’s manifestation and declaration of
support towards the national government’s endeavor for peace truly upholds to
this year’s theme “Nagkakaisang Bayan para sa Kapayapaan”
“The normalization of peace and security situation of the
province was an outcome of the unity of purpose and convergence of efforts of
all stakeholders led by the Provincial Government,” he said.
Meanwhile, PSSUPT Jose C. Carumba, Provincial Director of
the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office emphasized that peace is a shared
responsibility of every citizen in this country. He said this should not just
end up as mere celebration but should be always practiced. (Karen Lou Deloso,
