DAVAO CITY- “ We are on double full alert.”
This
according to Davao City Police Office chief Senior Superintendent
Vicente Danao Jr. describing the status of the city police during the
coming BIMP EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean
Growth Area) Trade Fair and Business Leaders conference this October
23-26.
Danao said there will be about 2,000 more
security personnel which will be guarding Davao City for the event. They
will be augmented by land, air and naval assets coming from the Armed
Forces.
“We will have maximum security on land, sea and air.” Danao said.
The DCPO chief said that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has
emphasized  the strict implementation of mobile checkpoints and oplan
kapkap (frisking) particularly in areas where the event will be held
like in malls and hotels.
He said the provinces adjacent to Davao City will also be conducting their own checkpoints to bolster security.
Danao said though they have not received serious threats they are taking their guard down.
The BIMP-EAGA event is expected to bring in 200,000 local and
international visitors this will include about 600 business leaders from
 across Asia. (PIA/RG Alama)
