DavNor celebrates Press Freedom Month



DAVAO DEL NORTE, October 13 (PIA) - - For four consecutive years, the provincial government here gave honour to the media through the celebration of Press Freedom Month every October.

The provincial information office during the regular monthly convocation program of the capitol kicked off earlier today the Press Freedom Month celebration with a live taping of DavNor Today at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan.

DavNor Today is a one-hour tele-magazine type production comprised of news reporting on the activities of the province and talk show with Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario and Regional Director Maria Lourdes Lim of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).

Gov. del Rosario said that in Davao del Norte, the government has a good rapport with the media.

“I think we are in good shape and don’t have a problem with the media and I am very grateful that they here attending this celebration,” Del Rosario said.

He said that the media played a crucial role in bringing information to the public especially the delivery of government services.

"I'll just ask the media to act impartially and independently in the treatment of their news," he stressed.

Gov. Del Rosario said that although it is unavoidable for the media to take side, the media should present fairly what is actually happening.

Sofonias Gabonada, provincial information coordinator, enumerated the activities of the monthlong celebration, which will include Academedia on October 16, Let’s Tour Talikud on October 17, Klima at Media on October 24, Press Congress on October 28 and Media Maglaro on October 31.
