IGACOS receives Nutrition, Boy Scout awards



ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL, Ocotber 28, 2014 - City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) received the CROWN (Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition) Award 2013 from 23rd Senate President Hon. Aquilino “Nene”  Q. Pimentel, Jr.  during the 2014 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at  Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City last October 21.

The Senator assisted by NNC Chair and Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona represented by Undersecretary Nemesio Gaco  and  Assistant Secretary of Health and National Nutrition Council Executive Director Maria-Bernardita T. Flores.

The NNC conferred the CROWN Award to Island Garden City of Samal for attaining three (3) consecutive years of outstanding performance in Nutrition or Green Banner Awardee in the region and for the continued nutrition  improvement of constituents in the city. The city received a trophy and cash award amounting to P500,000 and also have the chance to vie for the national award next year.

Barangay Nutrition Scholar Mary Jane M. Novabos of Barangay San Miguel, Samal District, IGaCoS was also one of the top 9 Regional Outstanding BNS and also received from NNC a certificate of Merit and cash incentive of P15,000 as National Outstanding BNS finalist.

During the Monday Convocation, Mayor Antalan, brainchild of the “May Gulay, May Buhay” Project, was very happy to report the received distinct award in nutrition since nutrition is one of his priority program and the received award demonstrated   excellent performance in the delivery of the program which help  improved the lives of the families in the island city.

Antalan urged employees to work harder and intensify efforts to improve the nutrition situation of constituents in the barangays and he also encouraged employees to conduct of physical exercises every Friday like zumba dancersizes to prevent lifestyle related diseases.

Antalan commended City Nutrition Action Officer and Deputy Mayor Rodolfo Dalumpines and members of the City Nutrition Council members for a job well done and to brace for a more challenging work ahead.

For the received cash award, he specifically mentioned the purchase of SALTER weighing scale and height measurement board,nutrition related equipments and conduct of capacity building activities that suit to the utilization guidelines given by NNC.

Meanwhile, Island Garden City of Samal Boy Scout of the Philippines emerged champion in the recently concluded 29th  Davao del Norte Provincial Kab-o-Rama Jamborette attended by BSPs from  Panabo City  and  municipalities of  Kapalong, Asuncion, Talaingod, San Isidro, Carmen, New Corella,  Braulio Dujali and Sto. Tomas  hosted by IGaCoS at Poblacion Kaputian on October 23- 26.

As per report from City Scout Coordinator Janus Rafailes, the activity was successful as per feedback from the BSP coordinators and BSP participants despite the experienced uncooperative weather conditions which hindered implementation of some of their activities and yet the participants enjoyed in their stay because they were able to freely enjoy the beach at Kaputian Beach Park.
