Philhealth, DSWD to hold elderly week activity

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 3 – In celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) this month, Philhealth and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will hold a whole-day activity set amidst a fun atmosphere, for at least 200 elderly participants on October 7 at the Kadayawan Hall, NCCC Mall, Davao City.

The joint activity will drumbeat with a simultaneous orientation on The Expanded Senior Citizen’s Act and the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) as an information drive to empower the elders with the rights and special privileges they are entitled to during their ‘twilight’ years.

Among the highlights of this activity include turnover of wheelchairs for selected participants and pay out of DSWD’s Social Pensioners, alongside the distribution of Philhealth Lifetime Member’s I.D. card and Member Data Record (MDR), which are requisites in availing of hospitalization benefits.

Philhealth, with the support of the Department of Health (DOH) will also deliver free check-up and vaccination services in response to the surfacing medical needs among the elderly while participating organizations will extend free haircut, massage, manicure and other pampering services solely primed for the participants.

Recognizing the elderly as one of the population segments prioritized for coverage of social protection, keeping them abreast about the government’s efforts through its various health care and social benefits programs is truly deemed important by Philhealth, DSWD and its partner agencies.

The EFW activity aims to give back to the senior citizens for their dynamic role and contribution to society over the years. The activity is also open for those who wish to witness the program and avail of Philhealth’s online membership services. (PRO XI-PAU/Kleah Dublin)
