DAVAO
CITY- The first East Asean Film Festival will be held this October 24-26 at the
Davao Cinematheque.
The
film fest is one of the side events during the coming BIMP-EAGA Trade Fair and
Business Leaders Conference which will be held in Davao City this October
23-26.
BIMP-EAGA
(Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines, East Asean Growth Area) is a
subregional economic cooperation initiative which was launched in Davao City 20
years ago.
The
film festival aims to gather the different regional filmmaking centers in the
subregion. These include films from Mindanao, Sabah and Brunei.
Among
the films will be featured includes Brunei’s full-length comedy film Ada Apa
Dengan Rina (What is so Special About Rina), shot in 2013, this is Brunei’s
second full-length film after 45 years.
While
Sabah will have the 90-minute feature film Sephia directed by Sabahan
filmmakers Tony Frances Gitom and tells the story of an Indonesian maid named
Sephia whose master falls in love with her.
Mindanao
will be represented by Tambara, a finalist of the Film Development Council
Sineng Pambansa film competition in 2012.
Apart
from full-length films short films, music videos and other video works from the
three countries will be exhibited during the three-day event. (PIA/RG Alama)
