The soldiers identified the returnees as Marco Engay Via 39,
and Gina Calimpitan Via 34 years old. They are thankful to the soldiers of 57IB
who facilitated their safe return to the folds of the law. “Joining the
CPP/NPA is a very big mistake we have committed in our lives, with the
soldier’s help, this is a second chance for us to redeem our normal lives that
were denied to us by the NPA after having fooled us to join their group through
sweet promises” the couple said.
Since April 2013 to date, there were already around 300 NPA who
surrendered with their assorted high powered firearms and another 101 NPA
members who surrendered without firearms in Eastern Mindanao area.
Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad
commended the soldiers of 57th IB for facilitating the safe
return of the couple. “Continuous NPA’s deception, harassment and attack to
civilians and civilian properties prompted many of their members to leave the
CPP/NPA. Not only our soldiers but every concerned LGUs, PNP and CSOs are very
much willing to help them in their return to the folds of the law” Lt.
Gen. Baladad said (pr/INF-PA)
