2 NPA surrenders in Cotabato



NSFA, Panacan, Davao City- Another two (2) CPP/NPA members, a couple voluntarily surrendered to the soldiers of 57th Infantry Battalion (57IB) of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division in Brgy. Imamaling, Magpet, North Cotabato around 11:45 a.m. on October 13, 2014. They are now undergoing interview at headquarters 57IB.

 The soldiers identified the returnees as Marco Engay Via 39, and Gina Calimpitan Via 34 years old. They are thankful to the soldiers of 57IB who facilitated their safe return to the folds of the law. “Joining the CPP/NPA is a very big mistake we have committed in our lives, with the soldier’s help, this is a second chance for us to redeem our normal lives that were denied to us by the NPA after having fooled us to join their group through sweet promises” the couple said.  

Since April 2013 to date, there were already around 300 NPA who surrendered with their assorted high powered firearms and another 101 NPA members who surrendered without firearms in Eastern Mindanao area.

Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad commended the soldiers of 57th IB for facilitating the safe return of the couple. “Continuous NPA’s deception, harassment and attack to civilians and civilian properties prompted many of their members to leave the CPP/NPA. Not only our soldiers but every concerned LGUs, PNP and CSOs are very much willing to help them in their return to the folds of the law” Lt. Gen. Baladad said (pr/INF-PA)
