IGACOS Athletic Meet held



Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte (Oct. 13, 2014) -The Schol Division of the Island Garden City of Samal held its annual Athletic Meet   last September 24-27, 2014 at Peñaplata Central Elementary School SPED Center, with three districts  competing; Babak District, Samal District and Kaputian District both elementary and secondary levels. This activity is conducted to select the best athletes to represent IGACOS in the DAVRAA Meet.

The said event commenced with a parade followed by a program. Ivy C. Pacaña, the principal of Peñaplata Central Elementary School SPED Center gave the welcome message. Followed by the hoisting of the  Division banner  by Arlene Mesina-Lubrano,  Division PESS Coordinator together with Marilou P. Rubio,  Administrative Officer V of the Division Office and  the banners of the different delegation were hoisted by the School Heads. On behalf of the Honorable City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan, the Chairman on the Committee of Education, Councilor Richard Guindolman challenged the athletes to play fairly and continue the battle with the support of the  Local Government Unit. Then Christian Fel M. Lopez , Palarong Pambansa Tennis player  led the Athletic Oath of Amateurism.

Rommel R. Jandayan, the OIC Chief of School Governance spoke on behalf of Eufemia T. Gamutin CESO VI, Officer In-Charge of the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent.  “Despite of the meager resources that we have, let us maximize its utilization and hope for a better performance. Let’s aim for excellence…Let’s give our best. Let’s win here, let’s win DAVRAA, let’s win in the Palarong Pambansa. Go Samal Wave! Puso. Samal”, he said.

Declaration of winners was held on the last day of the city meet. Winners in the secondary level: 2nd place-Samal District, 1st place-kaputian District and the champion-Babak District. For the elementary level : 2nd place-Samal District, 1st place-Babak District and the champion-Kaputian District. Qualified athletes of the different events for DAVRAA 2015 were also presented.

The OIC of the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent, Eufemia T. Gamutin, CESO VI gave a message during the closing program. “ Athletes, first thing to do when you return home is  say thank you to your parents for letting you participate in this athletic meet, without their permission you won’t be here. To DAVRAA qualified athletes, it is your responsibility to continue training everyday to be excellent and to cope up with the  top five Palarong Pambansa standing.
