LUPON, DAVAO ORIENTAL—Marvels of vibrant colors and loud drums rolled across the calm
weather in Barangay Calapagan’s 54th Founding Anniversary and 7th Pagsawitan
Festival last Sunday, October 5 as Barangay Local Government Unit received
assistancefrom the Provincial Government.
With funds sourced out from the provincial aid to barangays,
Barangay Calapagan received brand new mini dump truck, 50 monoblock chairs and
Php 80,000.00 cash assistance.
Brgy. Captain Jonel B. Del Monte formally received the key of
the newtruck and the cash check handed by Governor Corazon Malanyaon. He said
that the cash assistance will be used for electrifying and lighting the main
streets of the barangay. The chairs, he said will be donated to Calapagan
National High School’s Computer classes.
“I am very glad and thankful to our provincial officials led by
Governor Malanyaon for the positive reply to our humble requests for the
benefit of our people. On behalf of our community, I assure that we willalso do
our counterpart in improving our barangay, particularly on infrastructure
development programs,” said Del Monte.
As the festivity continued, Gov. Malanyaon congratulated the
leadership of the village’s local officials.
The Governor also appreciated the narration of Calapagan’s
history recited on the program for it served as strong reminder to the people
of their forefathers’ efforts and determination in putting Calapaganon the map.
According to the Governor, the people’s unity intensified by
their efforts for development, as witnessed by her presence on the celebration
appropriately advocates to the festival’s theme “Madyaw ng mga Otaw, Banwa na
Madayaw.” She added that these people’s exemplary traits would be the local
pride of Calapagan as the government waves its own provincial honors, such as
the Gawad PamanangLahi, considered as the highest accolade given to a local
government unit and the Mount Hamiguitan’s inscription to the UNESCO
World Heritage List, to name a few.
The governor urged people of Calapagan to sustain their positive
engagement and active participation to the endeavors of the government
especially in their community by nourishing their moral and noble characters,
which may lead also to the development of this province.
Moreover, Brgy. Capt. Del Monte said that unity, respect,
convergence and understanding are the elements to their barangay’s progress. He
formally concluded the program by restating the barangay’s slogan which also
evident in the mini dump truck’s windshield— “Together we can make lives even
better.”
