DepEd 11 supports drive against jejemon talk

DAVAO CITY, Oct 9 (PIA) The Department of Education has reinforced  the advocacy of the Philippine Postal Corporation to address the jejemon correspondence through the conduct of the Second National Letter Writing Day Thursday in cooperation with the Komisyon ng Wikang Pilipino and the SM Malls.

Genelito Atillo, spokesperson of the DepEd 11 said the advocacy aims to revive the interest of Filipinos in expressing gratefulness through writing.

He said the DepEd targets to rekindle love of writing in the midst of cellular phone texting revolution. “The advocacy is designed to combat the continuing problem on the use of jejemon through text messaging,” Atillo said.

He observed that the capability of students to write correctly has deteriorated because of the short-cuts due to the jejemon messaging. Atillo said the problem needs to be addressed with the cooperation of all sectors starting from the family.

He said the education sector cannot do it alone, despite the ongoing effort to correct it.“We need to restore the students’ ability to write appropriately,” Atillo said.

He said the problem needs the intervention of parents who can check on the manner children convey themselves through writing.

Atillo said a drop box for the missives will be provided by the Philpost  which would award the outstanding entries from the students.

“We want to send a huge message to everybody to improve our way of communication,” he stressed as he pointed out that the jejemon messaging has affected even the adult sector of the society.

Atillo said the current generation must be saved from the deterioration of the ability to write, which is affective of the Filipino culture and traditions.  (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
