DAVAO CITY, Oct. 10
(PIA) – The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) is set to hold a
seminar on how to handle persons with disabilities (PWDs) on October 14, 2014
at Marco Polo Davao.
This one-day
orientation/seminar which collaborates with the Department of Tourism (DOT)
intends to primarily come up with policy recommendations/measures that would create
an inclusive barrier-free and rights-based society for PWDs, an NCDA press
release stated.
The activity also aims
to orient tourism service providers on how to properly deal with tourists with
disabilities when they visit their hotel/resorts.
NCDA said that
resource persons for this seminar will demonstrate to the participants how to
deal with customers with disabilities in the accommodation industry, such as
hotels, resorts, restaurants, transportation and other similar establishments.
The participants will
be urged to identify major issues related to accessible tourism through
orientation on disability rights perspectives including the existing local and
international laws and mandates protecting the rights of PWDs.
The National Tourism
Development Plan will also be featured in this seminar, as one of the core
programs of government which requires stakeholders to focus on tourism
promotion and development that will eventually create more job opportunities
for Filipinos including those with disabilities.
The holding of the
said event is in line with the government’s thrust of promoting a barrier-free
tourism and disability-inclusive tourism environment for persons with
disabilities, NCDA stated. (NCDA/PIA-11, Carina L. Cayon)
