PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte, November 18,
2015 – City Mayor Engr. James G. Gamao led the Oath-Taking Ceremony of the
newly elected officers of Vintage Fisherfolk Association of Cagangohan (VFAC)
and Maritime Police Auxiliary Group (MPAG) on November 11, 2015 at Barangay
Hall, Cagangohan, this city.
Mayor Gamao stressed the importance of
monitoring and controlling the surveillance of PNP-Panabo Maritime headed by
station Commander P/INSP. John Paul B. Nepomuceno. “This aims to protect our
marine resources and to promote the interest and welfare of our fisherfolks,”
he added.
The Local Government and Bureau of Fisheries
and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will also work together in the development
programs and projects such as conservations and livelihood.
Meanwhile, Barangay Captain Russel Dumagil
said, “their installation will strengthen the dissemination of information and
in promoting the proper utilization of our seas and other aquatic resources in
cooperation with the Panabo PNP-Maritime. Ten (10) additional motorized bancas
will be given to members of VFAC and other fisherfolks association.”
VFAC president Francisco Demetrio, Jr.
expressed his gratitude to the government for the valuable support and effort
in protecting the seas and the fisher folk’s welfare.
On the other hand, Nepomuceno calls for the
VFAC officers and other Panaboans to be vigilant, responsible and coordinative

He also urged Panaboans to report any illegal
activities such as Illegal Fishing or Non Registered Fisherfolks, Fish
Poaching, Dynamite and Cyanide fishing, Using Fine-Mesh net, Commercial
Fishing, Wild Life Trafficking, among others.
He further mentioned that since Mindanao is
seldom visited by typhoons, mangroves are abundant here compared to Luzon and
Visayas, we should protect and preserve our marine resources. (Jasz/CIO-Panabo)
