DAVAO CITY, Jan 6 (PIA) City Administrator Atty. Melchor Quitain
welcomed the satisfactory rating given by the Office of the Deputy
Ombudsman for Mindanao to the city government of Davao in the delivery
of services and ridding its system of graft and corruption.
He recalled that one of the orders given to him by Mayor Rodrigo
Duterte in assuming the role as city administrator was to clean up the
local government.
“I am happy to report to the people that the Office of the Deputy
Ombudsman for Mindanao is satisfied with our delivery of services to the
people and our campaign against malpractices in government service,”
Quitain said.
He said that complaints against graft have been responded immediately.
Quitain said the city government has complied religiously requests
from the public and the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao to
investigate complaints against graft and corruption and to make the
subsequent reports based on a given time-table.
“They are happy with the way we handled public service by providing
one-stop shops to expedite the delivery of basic services to the
public,” he said.
Quitain said the Ombudsman just recommended the shortening of the procedural time in processing of applicants.
Earlier in his term, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered that processing of permits at the city hall must only take 72 hours.
Quitain said that the 72-hour duration is a general rule, given that
the issuance of permits like construction of buildings takes time for
inspection and verification.
He stressed that it is more likely that the city government will
comply with the recommendation of the Ombudsman. (PIA 11-Joey Sem G.
