Panabo crowns first Hiyas ng Binulig 2014

PANABO CITY, DAVAO DEL NORTE (Nov 4) –  Panabo City crowned its first Hiyas ng Binulig on the night of October 31 at the  close of the 2nd Binulig Festival 2014 celebration themed “Mabuligong abot, bunga sa nagkahiusang paningkamot. (Bountiful harvest, the fruit of our  united effort.)”

Candidates came from various tribes in the city such as the Mansaka, Ata, Ati, Bagobo, B’laan, Tagabawa, Sama, Manobo, Mandaya, Dibabawon, and the Tagakaolo to advocate the welfare of the Indigenous Peoples through beauty and grace.

Each candidate competed in three categories: Talent, Traditional Wear, and the Question and Answer.
Barangay Datu Abdul’s representative Aisha Macla of the Kagan Tribe bested 11 other candidates being the first Hiyas ng Binulig winner.

During the question and answer portion, Macla was asked about her sacrifices in the pageant. However, she answered that the question was irrelevant to what she is experiencing at the moment since she enjoyed the whole pageant night and preparation.

Further, the candidate from the Mandaya Tribe Kaye R. Sumbrado became Best in Talent which she won by presenting her acoustic version of the bisayan gospel song “Tanang Tribo”. Sumbrado was also proclaimed as the Hiyas ng Kalikasan (Nature) while Leah Warain of the Tagakaolo Tribe was awarded Hiyas ng Charity.

The winners were joined on stage together with their tribal chieftains and barangay captains.

Binulig Festival is an annual celebration of bountiful harvest in the City. It is celebrated on the last week of October.

The word “Binulig” is derived from the root word “Bulig” which means cluster; cooperation.   (Michael Angelo A. Resueño, CIO Panabo/jmda)
