Gov orders speedy investigation of electrocution incident

DAVAO DEL NORTE, October 2, 2014 – Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario has created a fact-finding body to fully investigate the electrocution of a 12-year old girl involving a transistor radio given by the Capitol as part of its disaster preparedness program.

“I have immediately ordered a full-scale investigation… to thoroughly look into the untoward incident,” the governor said in his official statement.

Amity Grace Dela Cruz was discovered dead at about 11 a.m. on Monday inside her bedroom at Prk. 3 Buclad, Asuncion, this province, still cuddling the transistor radio that is equipped with emergency light, with its power cord attached to the electrical outlet for charging.

Excerpt from the blotter of the Asuncion Municipal Police Station said that Dela Cruz was found lifeless with the antenna of the transistor radio still leaning against her left arm.

“Case was purely accidental in nature,” ruled the police report.

Del Rosario assured the speedy conduct of the investigation and to immediately release the result of the same to the public.

He bared the province has extended assistance to the family of the victim to support the 12-day wake and burial of the girl.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division (PDRRMD) immediately pulled out the six transistor radio units given to Barangay Buclad, together with dozens of units already distributed in other disaster-prone barangays during the previous Oplan ANDAM caravans, to be subjected to further technical inspection.

“We vow to exercise due diligence and make all the necessary effort in order to prevent the same accident from happening again,” the governor assured. (Noel Baguio-DavNor PIO)
