DTI-Davao issues warning re coffee brand recall

DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here has issued a warning following an advisory with regard to San Mig 3-in-1 instant coffee mix which is a subject of a recall order by Health Canada due to the presence of undeclared milk in the product.

A copy of the letter of the Office of American Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs was furnished to DTI-Davao Region by the Office of Trade Undersecretary Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba. The said letter from the Office of American Affairs was about the report made by the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, Canada with regard to San Mig 3-in-1 Instant Coffee Mix which is a subject of a recall order by Health Canada due to the presence of undeclared milk in the product.

The recall was made since there are people who are allergic to milk or have lactose intolerance, thus, they must avoid consuming food products that contain it.

The affected products are: (1) San Mig 3-in-1 Coffeemix – original 140 g (14 g X 10 sachets) and where all lot codes that were found to contain milk but such was not indicated on the label. UPC outer package, 4 806513 740022; inner package, 4 806513 740008; and (2) San Mig 3-in-1 Coffeemix – original 14 g and all lot codes having no indication of milk content with UPC 4 806513 740008.

DTI-Davao Region Officer-in-Charge Ma. Belenda Q. Ambi said that based on the memorandum of USec. Dimagiba, DTI has already endorsed this particular concern to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), which has jurisdiction over it.

“As for DTI, we are here to help them out in informing the public. After all, part of our mandate is to protect the welfare of consumers,” she said.

If consumers have found some retailers who are still selling the said products which have no proper label, they may report it to the nearest FDA office, or they may also lodge their concern with DTI, whichever is more convenient for them.DTI11/JenMendoza
