PANABO CITY- The
Panabo City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) spearheaded the
Elderly Week Celebration with the theme: “Ang Nakakatanda ay Yaman,
Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan, Pangalagaan Kanilang Kapakanan” held
at the ARF Gym last September 25, 2014.
City Mayor Jose L.
Silvosa, Sr., graced the opening program during which he outlined the
significant role played by senior citizens in the development and progress of
Panabo City.
He also graced the
awarding of Certificates of Recognition given to the Senior Citizens who served
15 years of service in the Panabo Federation of Senior Citizens
Association (PAFESCA).
Part of the
celebration was the opening of the 19th Socio Cultural and Sports Competition
wherein more than 800 Senior Citizens attended. Participants displayed their
talents such as Vocal Solo contest, Chess, Dama and Ballroom dancing
competition.
Free haircut was also
sponsored by City Councilor Hon. Janet Tanong-Maboloc.
Present during the
activity were Board Members Hon. Ely Dacalus, Hon. Allan Dujali, City
Councilors Hon. Emmanuel G. Pamisaran, Hon. Janrey G. Gavina, Hon. Raquel B.
Geraldo, Hon. Emeterio E. Blase and representatives of
Congressman Hon. Anton F. Lagdameo, Jr. and Governor Hon. Rodolfo
Del Rosario.
Elderly Week is an
annual event declared thru Proclamation No. 470, it highlights the important
role of older person in Nation building. The CSWDO in partnership with the
City’s members of the PAFESCA gather for a week of activities to promote public
awareness of the rights and the well being of elderly people.
The City Government
has prioritized the welfare of Senior Citizens through the Senior Citizen
Welfare Program of the CSWDO. The program supports the implementation of R.A.
9994 also known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
Those who are covered
by the said law can avail 20% discount on the sales of goods and services such
as medicines, medical and dental fees, transportation fees, admission fees in
