Davao City -“Our senior citizens are important to us. We should
always remember to recognize their contribution in society because this
is one way of encouraging them to live life to the fullest and to
continue to be productive despite their advanced years,” urges Social
Welfare Director Priscilla N. Razon as the country marks the Elderly
Filipino Week from October 1-7.
The Department of
Social Welfare and Development in partnership with the Regional
Inter-Agency Committee on Older Persons (RIACOP), leads the observance
with the following activities: 1) Event Launch; 2) Radio Guesting; 3)
Provincial and Municipal Celebrations; 4) Orientation on RA 9994 or The
Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010; 5) Lecture on Normal Aging,
Communication with the Older Person, Fall Prevention, and Home Safety
for Older Persons; 6) Field Trip of Home for the Aged residents; 7)
Social Pension Payout in Davao City; 8) Turnover of Wheelchair to Social
Pension Beneficiaries; 9) Issuance of PhilHealth Card; 10) Socio
Cultural Competition and Search for 2014 Mutya ng Senior Citizens; and
11) Culminating Program at Kadayawan Hall, NCCC Mall.
The senior citizens will also be treated to a free Eye and Medical Examination, Massage and Haircut.
Theme
for this year is Ang Nakatatanda ay Yaman, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad Ng
