DAVAO CITY, April 1 (PIA) An officer of the Bureau of Fire
Protection in Davao Region cited negligence as the primary cause of fire
incidents.
Fire Superintendent Sydney Besana, assistant director of the BFP
11 clarified that human factor leads for fire to occur especially on incidents
attributed to electrical short-circuit.
He said fire incidents must not directly link solely to short
circuit since electrical wirings are designed by electrical engineers who know
the extent of its use.
Besana said many houses are prone to electrical overload since
the wirings are not changed as occupants acquire more appliances and electrical
gadget as time goes by.
“Occupants must be aware of the possibility of electrical
overload whenever they plug in more appliances in a low capacity wiring
system.” he said.
Besana said a total of 117 fire incidents were responded by
their agency in the first quarter of 2015 in Davao Region, higher by seven
incidents compared to the fire incidents that occurred in the same period last
year at 110 incidents.
He said that 55 among the 117 incidents were grass fires.
“Despite the conclusion of the fire prevention month of March,
the Bureau of Fire continues to be on red alert due to the Lenten Season,” He
said.
Besana said during March 2015, 55 fire incidents happened
in Davao City, 20 incidents in Davao del Sur, 31 incidents in Davao del Norte,
eight in Davao Oriental and three fire incidents in Compostela Valley.
He said the recent fire incidents incurred a total of P20,
969,700 damaged in property. (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
