DAVAO DEL NORTE, April 22 (PIA) - - “The Armed Forces of the Philippines assures the public that we will always be here together with the Philippine National Police and we will do extra efforts to ensure the safety and protection of the delegates of the Palaro.”
Major Gen. Eduardo Año, commanding officer of the 10th Infantry Division, emphasized that the army will provide all the adequate necessary forces to carry their mandate of securing the public during the staging of Palarong Pambansa in the province of Davao del Norte on May 3-9.
Major Gen. Año said that as part of the army’s support, they will first intensify their intelligence operations to know if there are intentions from armed groups, whether the New People’s Army, lawless group and private armed troops, to disrupt the national games.
“Second, we strike first. If there is indeed that information then we have forces to conduct focus military operation to stop these elements,” Año said.
He added that one company of soldiers will be deployed within the province as a strike force ready to act on any eventuality.
“But the most important factor here is the participation of the people,” he said.
Año encouraged the residents to be vigilant and immediately give information to authorities of any suspicious persons and objects.
“We will be distributing pamphlets with important security and safety numbers to assist us in securing our place,” he said. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
