DAVAO DEL NORTE, April 16 (PIA)--To cushion the
adverse impact of El Nino on water and power supply during the 2015 Palarong
Pambansa, Davao del Norte Governor del Rosario sets to meet with fire
marshals and calls on power distribution entities to forge effort to prevent
power interruptions from May 3 to May 9.
In an interview with some media practitioners this morning, Del
Rosario revealed his meeting next week with fire marshals in Davao del
Norte, Compostela Valley and Davao City to lay out plans to ensure water supply
within the Palaro period.
“With lack of water, everything else will follow,” Del Rosario
said while explaining the difficulty in cleaning up toilets, bathing, washing
and cooking. “We cannot take this lightly,” he added.
On the other hand, Del Rosario revealed that he had already
appealed to Davao Light and Power Corporation, Davao del Norte Electric
Cooperative and to Aboitiz Company to discuss ways of sparing the
province from power interruptions.
Davao Light supplies power for Panabo City and the towns of STo.
Tomas and Carmen and DANECO provides for Tagum City and the rest of Davao del
Norte while Aboitiz through its Therma Marine plant augments the
power supply of DANECO.
“If they can ensure that in spite of the shortage of power, they
will try to figure out how to ensure continuous supply of power to Davao
del Norte so as not to disrupt the Palaro,” he said.
He made such call upon knowing the water levels of hydro
power plants in Agus and in Pulangi were starting to fall at critical
levels due to absence of rains.
“If there will be
brownouts, sana sa ibang lugar na lang (hoping brownout would
happen in other areas),” he said. (PIA 11/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)
