Three areas in Davao City under election-watchlist

DAVAO CITY, April 5 (PIA) The Davao City Police Office has placed three areas here in the May 13-election-watch-list due to the presence of communist rebels.

Senior Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, director of the DCPO said these areas are the districts of Paquibato, Marilog and Baguio.

He said the presence of the rebels might have an effect on the participation of residents in the electoral exercise.

De la Rosa said that as part of the security measures, the Joint Security Coordinating Committee composed of the police, military and the Commission on Elections decided to increase the number of police and military elements in these areas to ensure law and order during the Election Day.

“We will  enhance our presence in these areas especially the barangays of Paquibato, Marilog ang Baguio districts which are placed in the election watch-list,” he said.

De la Rosa said rivalry among politicians is not much a concern in the city as majority among those seeking public office committed themselves to make the May 13,2013 elections orderly and peaceful.

Earlier in March, the DCPO together with the Archdiocesan Social Action Center and the Commission on Elections XI spearheaded the signing of the covenant for honest, orderly and peaceful elections at the Camp Domingo Leonor.

He said that with the signing of the covenant, the political candidates have committed to obey election rules.

A total of eight congressional political candidates for the three district of the city and 49 city council candidates signed the peace covenant.

De la Rosa said the police with the military will also exert all efforts to ensure peaceful and orderly elections on May 13.  (RGA/JSD/PIA XI)
