Red Cross extends assistance to about 20,000 families in ComVal


COMPOSTELA VALLEY PROVINCE-----From among the Humanitarian Partners of the province in helping the typhoon victims is the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

According to  Mariko Harada, ICRC- Nabunturan Head of Office that there are almost 20,000 typhoon-victim families whom they are giving assistance within the 36 barangays of the typhoon-hard hit municipalities such as Laak– 11 barangays; New Bataan- 7 barangays;  Compostela-3 barangays; Monkayo-6 barangays and; Montevista– 6 barangays.

Every month, they are giving to these families Family Food Packs with each pack consists of 25 kilos of rice,  12 cans of sardines, 2 galloons of cooking oil, 1 liter soy sauce, sugar, coffee, salt, 2 bars of detergent soap, and other items.

Earlier, they also gave essential household items for every family like kitchen wares and utensils.

Ms. Harada also shared that just like the other humanitarian partners, the Red Cross also joined the Cash for Work Program of the provincial government lead by Governor Arturo T. Uy and Kidawa of the Municipality of Laak was their barangay-beneficiary.

She further revealed that another set of interventions that they are going to extend is the putting of water system in some identified barangays and the giving of shelter of assistance.  (grace almedilla/ gilbert m. cabahug, ids-comval)
