Food packs support to typhoon victims continues


COMPOSTELA VALLEY PROVINCE, April 5, 2013 (PIA) - Distribution of family food packs by the provincial government of Compostela Valley to the Typhoon Pablo victims in the province is continuing.

The LGU through the Provincial Social Welfare & Development Office (PSWDO), they are now on their fifth round starting way back from January 2013, providing typhoon-victim families whose farms and houses were devastated and livelihood wiped out.

The food assistance is a continuous effort of the provincial government, national government through the Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD), local donors, and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).  

Focus of this intervention are the five hardest hit municipalities:  New Bataan,  Compostela, Monkayo, Montevista, and Laak.  Though distributions are also made to those affected barangays not covered in the mentioned towns.

In the Municipality of Laak alone, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) revealed that 19,580 affected families benefited from the food assistance in every round of distribution within the 55 barangays.  Each pack has 10 kilos of rice, packs of noodles, coffee, and canned goods.  (grace almedilla/ gilbert cabahug, ids-comval)
