MANILA (PIA) – A book on experiences and lessons learned from
super typhoon Yolanda will be launched on November 10, a year after the
Philippines was hit by the strongest tropical cyclone in recorded history, with
President Benigno S. Aquino III as guest of honor.
The launching of the book entitled “Y (It Happened)” will be held
at 2 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City on
said date.
The book is part of the Typhoon Yolanda Documentation Project
spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC)
and supported by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
To gather data and stories for the book, researchers from NDRRMC
member agencies travelled to areas hit by the typhoon, particularly ground-zero
areas in Tacloban and Tanauan in Leyte province to conduct interviews with
officials and local folks.
Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) pounded many areas in
Regions 4-B, 6 and 8 on the morning of November 8, 2013,
leaving more than 6,000 people dead, and damages and losses amounting to P132.4
billion.
Through the Yolanda experience, government agencies were able to
identify gaps in the implementation of the disaster risk reduction &
management framework at the national and local levels. (PIA)
