IGACOS celebrates Children's Month in October



ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL, November 6 - The City Social Welfare and Development Office gathered the pre-schoolers from districts of Babak, Samal and Kaputian  for the city level competition in celebration of the Children’s Congress Month at Samal Multi-purpose Gymnasium, Penalpata, Samal District last October 24.

Before the city level competition, a district level contest of pre-schoolers from their respective barangay were conducted where three top winners from the singing, Poster making, modeling clay and Kids Challenge contests were chosen.

The competitions focused on the seven areas of child’s development domains  including gross motor, fine, self-help, receptive language, expressive language, cognitive and social-emotional giving emphasis on the celebration’s theme “Bata Kasama Ka, Ikaw Ay Mahalaga”  and children’s participation in nation-building.

“Sauna ang mga bata dili tugutan mo sagbat og istorya sa mga tigulang, pero sa panahon nato karon lahi na,  maka express na sila kung unsa ang ilang gihuna-huna. Ang bata magpakabata gyud.” (Before, we don’t allow our children to get involved to any adult’s conversation, now, it’s different, we encouraged our children to speak their minds  and enjoy being a child), City Social Welfare and Development Officer  Abundia Lariosa said.

Women, Family, Children, Elderly and Social Welfare Chairperson City Councilor Teresita B. Antalan urged parents to support and teach their children and not just rely to the day care teachers even if the teachers were good because to her education and discipline starts at the home.

Antalan congratulated the parents who accompanied their kids in the activity, encouraged them to support and love their kids for these strengthened relationship and further developed intelligence and confidence of the children.

City Level children’s competition winners in the singing contest were Aldred Duran of Barangay Catagman won the 1st prize; Jovinica Mohammad of Sta Cruz, Kaputian District  placed second followed by Divine Grace Mateo of Barangay San Isidro Kaputian District. Jovinica Mohammad also won the 1st prize of Poster making contest, 2nd  place goes to Rose Aubrey Otero of Barangay Limao and 3rd place bagged by Julian Dologuin of Barangay Penaplata. In the  modeling clay contest winners were Mark Joseph Mulingbayan of Barangay Limao won the 1st  prize; followed by Rochel Anneka Allosa of Mambago B and Chanille Teodosio of Barangay Mambago-A. Winners in Kids challenge were Chlouie Angela Tongcal of Poblacion Kaputian Day Care, Angelica Canubas of Dadatan Day Care and AJ Bandahala of Libuak Day Care Center respectively.  All winners received cash prize and a trophy, while non-winners received consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, the 103rd Brigade in coordination with the city government of Island Garden City of Samal gathered 72 youth leaders from the barangays  to join the First IGaCoS Youth Leadership Summit held at PHRDC, Brgy. Catagman, Samal District on October 23 -25.

 In an effort to maintain peace and order and spur development in this tourism island, involvement and cooperation of the young leaders contributes much and it goes in their theme “Molding the youth as catalyst for peace and development of IGaCoS”.

The active Youth for Peace Movement – Talbos from Davao del Norte facilitated the three days team building, personality and leadership development activities which also comprised lectures on health, laws and regulations concerning the youth.

“Nanginahanglan kita ug mga batan-ong lider alang sa kalambuan sa atong syudad ug mapasalamaton kita kang Mayor Aniano Antalan sa pagpahigayon ug kalihukan para magkahimamatay ug mapalambo ang abilidad sa kabatan-onan sa atong syudad”( We need young leaders for the development of our city and we thank Mayor Aniano  Antalan to conduct this capability building activity that develops camaraderie and capability of the youth in our city), Liga ng mga Punong Barangay President Luduig Von Gervacio said in his welcome address during the opening program. (Samal Info)
