DAVAO DEL NORTE, November 6 (PIA) - - Around
30 private media practitioners from the provinces of Davao del Norte and
Compostela Valley participated in the Environment Reporting Forum held recently
at the Big 8 Corporate Hotel, Tagum City.
The Philippine Information Agency (PIA)
conducted a Forum on Climate Change with the media practitioners as part of the
Press Freedom Month celebration in October.
Efren Elbanbuena, PIA regional director, stressed
that media practitioners in the provinces especially those disaster-prone areas
to get used to environment reporting.
“The media should be prepared also not only in
saving their lives and property but also on reporting the actual scenes of the
disaster because through them everyone will be informed,” Dir. Elbanbuena said.
Henrylito Tacio, general secretary of the
Philippine Network of Environmental Journalist, emphasized that the media
should not only rely on the reports from the local officials during disasters
rather sought the opinions from the expert.
“These experts like those from the PAGASA are
more than willing to give you explanations on the disaster at hand,” Tacio
said.
Dir. Elbanbuena disclosed that together with
the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the PIA will conduct
extensive drive on climate change in the schools and communities of the region.
