Island Garden City of Samal, May 18, 2015 - The city government
of Island Garden City of Samal -City Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Council was awarded third place CDRRM and humanitarian
assistance in the Philippines in the component city category during the
2014 Gawad Kalasag National Awarding Ceremony at Apo View Hotel, Davao
City on May 11.
Legazpi City won first place followed by Koronadal City as second in the search for 2014 Gawad KALASAG, an annual recognition of individual or institution for outstanding initiatives in disaster management and humanitarian assistance in the Philippines. KALASAG or shield is an acronym which stands for KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan.
CDRRM Executive Officer Janus Rafailes representing City Mayor Antalan was greatly honoured in receiving the award for being recognized as one of the selected cities with exemplary performance and best practices and for pro-active initiatives in responding to disasters and emergencies. He was also thankful for the award because IGaCoS compared to the other competing cities was fairly spared from immense disasters.
Island Garden City of Samal championed in Gawad Kalasag for three consecutive years in Region XI and now bagged third place in the National Gawad Kalasag 2014 and given a plaque of recognition and fifty thousand cash. (MTA Samal)
