TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, May 07 (PIA) – Provincial Governor Rodolfo P. Del Rosario still holds his quest to set a record of having the “Best Palaro” in Davao del Norte, up to the closing ceremony of the Palarong Pambansa.
Late afternoon yesterday (May 6), Del Rosario encouraged media practitioners covering the Palaro to stay until Saturday on May 9 for the closing ceremony which he promised to make it “grand”.
“It will not be a simple one but a grand closing ceremony,” he said in a press briefing done at the media lounge at Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex.
In revealing his plans to stage a grand closing ceremony on Saturday, the Governor looked back at the supposed to be high spirited opening ceremony that was caught up in heavy rains pushing fast forward most of the highlights.
Others were skipped such as the introduction of the keynote speaker by Department of Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, the Keynote Address by Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas; Awarding of Plaque to the keynote speaker, presentation of the Palarong Pambansa 2015 Theme Song, the Oath of Sportsmanship and Amateurism, Officiating Officers Oath of Conduct.
Only the Field Demonstration performed by more about 1,400 secondary students and teachers from DepEd schools division in the cities of Tagum, Panabo, Samal and Davao del Norte was done in full length as rehearsed.
The Governor, however, just viewed the incident positively saying the rain saved the children from the seething heat of the sun and that he viewed the downpour as providential as it refreshed the performing children (referring to the field demo performers).
Parang ang kabataan were so happy that the rain was coming down but the crowd was disrupted,” he said.
On the other hand, Davao del Norte Sports Coordinator Giovanni Gulanes on the same forum revealed that the Provincial Government will be rewarding P50,000.00 to the delegation with the highest number of Palaro participants present during the closing ceremony.
A reward of P40,000.00, P30,000.00, P20,000.00 and P10,000.00, respectively, will be given to the delegation with the next succeeding rank in headcount of participants present at the finale’.
Offhand, Gulanes revealed that the skipped parts of the Palaro Opening Ceremony will be performed and presented during the closing ceremony and that the field demonstration will be re-enacted as some might have missed it in the opening. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive D. Abangan)
