DAVAO DEL NORTE, Feb. 06 (PIA) --Members of the Girl Scouts of the
Philippines (GSP) will express the theme, “I Imagine, I Achieve, I
Serve” during the 38th National Encampment that will be hosted by Davao
del Norte Girl Scouts Council, projecting a “can do” disposition .
“Yes, the girls can do,” GSP 1st National Vice President, Dr.
Cristina Lim-Yuson said as she summed up in general, the
self-development return that each girl-participant would be bringing
with them when they’d go home after attending the encampment that will
be held from April 11 to April 15 this year at Camp Alano in Toril,
Davao City.
“We want our girls to look ahead on what
they can do to serve,” she said in an interview during her interaction
and meeting with officers of GSP Eastern Mindanao Region and with GSP
Davao del Norte Council.
Yuson also expected the girls to build relationships during the
encampment that will also feature outdoor activities which used to be
“for boys”. “But the girls says they can do it and yes, they can!,”
she said.
Based on the recently released preliminary schedule of activities,
the girl-participants will do adventure activities at D’ Leonor Resort
where they will experience the wave pool with raging water, the
hanging bridge cross and the wall climb facility of the resort.
They will engage in “Rope Challenges with Disaster Risk Reduction
Management Training” to include spider web, obstacle course, lazy
commando, rappelling and monkey bridge and they will also experience
the so-called “A Walk through My World” adventure which will take them
to a IMAX 3D movie watching, among others.
Girl Scouts Encampment Promotions and Publicity Committee chairperson
Norma R. Pereyras in a separate interview said that the 97 Girl Scouts
councils in the Philippine will be sending 16 participants to the
encampment, reaching a total of 1,552 expected number of
girl-participants.
GSP Eastern Mindanao Region Chairperson Lolita Garcia, however, said
the total number of participants will reach 1,838 to include the adult
chaperons and staff, and that the figure could even be more, as “others
would possibly register on-site”.
On the other hand, Davao del Norte Girl Scouts Council President
Providencia P. Nunez has been on the thick of preparations since late
last year, being the chairperson of the 38th GSP National Encampment
Committee.
“We want to make sure that every girl will go home satisfied and happy,” she said.
She has formed committees on physical arrangement, program, ways and
means, food, transportation and tours, reception-meetings-send off,
health and sanitations, promotions and publicity, security and
safety. (PIA 11/ Jeanevive D. Abangan)
