PNPA looking for applicants

DAVAO CITY- The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) needs able, responsible and well-motivated youths who have the aptitude for service to meet the varied and challenging duties of a public safety service officer.

He or she must be a natural-born Filipino citizen of good moral character, single with no parental or financial obligation to anybody, must be 18 years old and not more than 22 years old on April 15, 2015, height of at least 162. 5 meters (5’4”)  for male and 157/5 cm (5’2”) for female. Weight must not be more than or not less than 5 kilograms of the standard weight corresponding to height, age and sex.

Other requirements include he or she must be a high school graduate, must be able to perform the following physical fitness exercises (3 pull-ups (male), full arms hanging (30 seconds), 2 minute pushups (15 for male, 10 for female), 2 minute sit-ups (30 for male, 25 for female), 100 meter dash (18 seconds for male, 20 seconds for female), 3 kilometer run (27 minutes for male, 30 minutes for female)..

Interested applicants must be physically and mentally fit for cadetship training, no criminal, administrative or civil case and derogatory records, not a former PNPA cadet or other service academies and must pass the Cadet Admission Test.

Examinations will be held on October 26, 2014 and will cover communication skills, logical and reasoning ability, math and sciences, general information and current events, values and aptitude for service.

National Literacy Conference on

DAVAO CITY- The annual National Literacy Conference will be held this Sept. 18-19 at the Teachers’ Camp in Baguio City.

The event is organized by the Literacy Coordinating Council and will banner the theme “Literacy Towards Resilient Communities.

The conference aims to be a venue for the exchange of good practices and experiences on literacy programs relevant to climate change and disaster risk reduction.

It will also help heighten awareness and readiness in anticipating the risks brought about by climate change and armed conflicts and in managing the impacts of these risks and in rebuilding their communities.

Expected to attend are those coming from the Department of Education and government offices, private institutions and non-government organizations with programs and advocacies on literacy.

The presentation of the top five winners of the National Literacy Awards in the categories of the Outstanding Literacy Program and Outstanding Local Government Unit will also be held in the conference. (PIA/RG Alama)

Bulawang medalya nasukmit sa Phl Army Dragon Boat team sa kompetisyon ngadto sa Italya

Nasungkit sa Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team niadtong adlawng biyernes ang unang bulawang medalya sa usa ka pangkalibutang kompetisyon ngadto sa Ravenna, Italy.

Ang maong team ang nakakuha sa pinaka ubos nga time record nga 47.85 seconds sa finals sa small boat category (200-meter premier open) sa 9th International Dragon Boat Federation Club Crews World Championships.

 Ang 18-man Philippine Army team ang nakig tigi sa mga team gikan sa nasud Germany, Netherlands ug United Arab Emirates sa maong kategorya. Gikatakdang mo lumba na usab kini sa adlawng Domingo alang sa 500-meter event. (PIA Daily News Digest_090814)

Emergency powers usa lamang ka opsiyon aron atubangon ang krisis sa enerhiya - Malakanayang

Search for Model OFW Family of the Year launched

DAVAO CITY, Sept 8 (PIA) The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Davao Region is now accepting nominations for the regional search for 2014 Model OFW Family of the Year Award.

Speaking at the Kapehan sa SM City, Eduardo Bellido, director of the OWWA 11 said the annual search aims to give recognition to outstanding Overseas Filipino Workers and their families who were able to overcome the difficulties and challenges of overseas migration.

He said the search also aims to promote best practices of OFW families in achieving success such as maintaining strong family relations, financial stability, able to contribute to community service and managing their own business.

Bellido said this year’s search will focus on the importance of family values giving emphasis for the wholesome OFW family relationship and solidarity, civic or community involvement, success in education or profession of family members and success in managing family finances.

“There will be on regional winner each for the land-based and sea-based categories which will represent the region in the national finals tentatively set on the last week of November,” he said.

Bellido said special awards for outstanding achievement in entrepreneurship and community projects shall also be selected through a committee composed of representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment, OWWA, non-government organizations, and faith-based organizations.

He said deadline of the submission of nominations will be on September 20 while the winners will be announced on October 2014.

Bellido said criteria for nomination are as follows:

1.    Family is headed by an OFW (land-based or sea-based) either married or single, formerly or presently working abroad with employment contract or work permit and with proof of OWWA membership of at least four years;

2.    The OFW does not have an immigrant status in a foreign country;
3.    Family must be financially stable and known as a solid and stable family in the community.
