Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte vows to stop corruption under his watch

DAVAO CITY, June 27 (PIA) Outgoing Davao City Mayor and President-elect Rodrigo Duterte assured that  his governance will be for the hopeless, helpless and the defenseless, a maxim he borrowed from his father, Governor Vicente Duterte of the then Empire Davao Province.

“There will be no corruption. I am hell bent to stop on corruption,” he pointed out.

Duterte said he no longer wants to see people lining up or sleeping on the pavement at the Professional Regulations Commission, Department of Foreign Affairs and the like.

He said these agencies must provide clients with shopping lists and must explain the process of securing clearances, licenses and passports, respectively.

Duterte bid farewell to the city hall employees during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony where he urged local residents to be considerate of the security protocols being imposed to ensure his safety.

He explained that inasmuch as the Presidential Security Group understands his closeness to the people, they have to strictly follow their mandate to give security to the life of the president especially under their watch.

“They will all be demoted if something happens to me,” Duterte stressed.

He said he prefers to observe low profile even with his entourage and opts not to ride on presidential vehicles like the Mercedes Benz.

Duterte also revealed that he told his cabinet members that personal ambition like running for public office has no place in his administration knowing the possibility persons with ambition will only use public funds, time and effort to campaign to win.

“Given that we are all of the same age, we retire all together,” he said.  (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
