Tagum now has 15-MW Power plant

TAGUM CITY- A 15-megawatt diesel-fired power plant aimed at augmenting the city’s peak power demand was inaugurated last January 17.

Tagum City Mayor Allan L. Rellon hailed the power plant as a welcome development for the city, which could curtail the power shortage in the city and making it friendlier to businesses.

The power plant is a P610-million investment of the EEI Power Corporation, one of the firms under the Yuchengco Group of Companies.

It will serve the needs of Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative (DANECO) as a peaking power plant, operating during the peak hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new bunker diesel-fired power plant is located in Barangay Magdum, Tagum City.

Despite the operation of the new peaking power plant, DANECO is seeking for other power sources.

By 2015 it is projected that the coop’s available power supply will be an average of  73 MW, however because of steady growth in the DANECO area power demand is expected to reach 86.6 MW.  (PIA-XI RG Alama)
