Korean students engage in outreach program in Sta. Cruz

STA. CRUZ, Davao del Sur, Jan. 08 (PIA) – Thirty Korean students from Soon Chun Hyang University in South Korea arrived here on Saturday, January 4, 2014 to engage in an outreach program in selected communities in the municipality of Sta. Cruz, this province.

The delegation has started its community immersion drive on January 6 at Sta. Cruz National High School, Sta. Cruz Central Elementary School and the Badjao Community of Apo Beach, Barangay Zone 3.

The Korean students will stay in Sta. Cruz until January 17, this year.

Richard Lee, the coordinator of the delegation, said the program is part of the university’s effort to let their students immerse to areas in the Philippines that they believed they could render corresponding community assistance.

Lee said this would eventually build cultural attachment between the host community and the university students.

This is the second time that Soon Chun Hyang University has conducted a community immersion in Sta. Cruz.

The first time was also in January of 2013 where part of their efforts included building a community shed in the Badjao area.

Soon Chun Hyang University is a private university located in the City of Asan, South Chungcheong province in South Korea. (MIO-Sta. Cruz/Julius K. Paner)
