ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL, May 22, 2014 (PIA) - The city government of the Islang Garden City of Samal honored the 52 city scholars batch 2014 graduates from various colleges and universities by giving a recognition program during the city officials and employees Monday Convocation at the Samal Multi-purpose Gym, Samal District on May 19.
Like a graduation scene, the graduates paraded with their parents to the center stage to receive their certificate of recognition given by the city government. More so, when the six (6) city scholars, who graduated cum laude, delivered their commencement speech during the program.
The scholars were grateful to the financial assistance provided by the local government and their family in finishing their college education along with their determination, hard work and faith in God.
IGaCoS Vice Mayor Al David Torres Uy appreciated the graduates as pride of the city and also acknowledged the sustaining support of the parents who were equally proud of their success. He encouraged the graduates to grab and not be finicky with whatever opportunity that comes to them and not rush into getting married so they can still help their family/parents.
The scholars who graduated cum laude were Azenith D. Cabulang, graduated in Business Administration major in Marketing Management in University of Immaculate Conception; Realyn C Bucad - Bachelor of Science Education major in English at University of Mindanao Penaplata; Beverly C. Luchavez – Bachelor of Science major in Mathematics at University of Southeastern Philippines; Mitos S. Seradpon - Bachelor of Science in Elementary major in Early Childhood Education at University of Southeastern Philippines; Giovani C. Villegas –Business in Administration major in Financial Management at Mindanao Aeronautic Technical School; Menny Queen P. Visda – Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration at Mindanao Aeronautic Technical School . Each also received Php5,000 cash award and a plaque of recognition for their outstanding performance in their chosen.
The Scholarship program was implemented by local government through the City Mayor’s Office. This was open to poor but deserving high school graduates from public or private secondary schools of IGaCoS. The program covers current (regular), past(out-of-school), lumads, Muslim and Alternative Learning System (ALSD) graduates who were permanent residents in IGaCoS.
The Scholarship Committee was headed by City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan and SP Chairman on the Committee on Education and Culture as Vice Chairperson while the members are all SP members of the committee on Education and Culture and a representative of City Legal Office, City Budget Officer, City Treasurer Officer, City Accountant Officer, FABC President and two representative from Dep-Ed regular and ALS.
It has always been said that youth is the hope of nation, thus, it is also the sign of a progressive city when the government strongly and continuously support this program, advocating and encouraging the youth on the importance of education to everyone. (emma samal-info)
