DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, May 15 (PIA) – Governor Claude Bautista has just approved a whooping P100 million budget for the improvement of health services at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital (DSPH), which was included in the Annual Investment Program for 2014.
The budget will be utilized for the purchase of hospital equipments like one (1) unit of CT Scan, two (2) units of Mammogram, five (5) units of ultrasound machine, five (5) units of digital machine for the Computer Radiography and X-Ray machines.
This was bared by DSPH chief Dr. Glinard Quezada, who assumed the post in December last year.
Dr. Quezada said the improvement of the health budget is a confirmation of Bautista’s sincere commitment to rightly deliver health services to the constituents of Davao del Sur including Davao Occidental which is still part of the governor’s administration until 2016.
He said the provincial government has also allocated P12 million for the purchase of medicines, adding that this amount could still be augmented if supplemental budget is made when the need arises.
Another positive development is the increase of daily wage for the volunteer nurses, from P220 a day to P309, and P409 daily for pharmacists, radio technicians and medical technicians, among others.
The DSPH has also been planning to hire 11 more medical practitioners and 156 job order employees after assessing that the present set-up is not enough to address varied concerns at the hospital, Dr. Quezada revealed.
He said there are only five doctors on duty everyday, composing of anaesthesiologist, internist, pediatrician, surgeon and obstetrician.
To further lighten the load, the hospital chief said they are proposing to hire another batch of three internal medicines, six anaesthesiologists, four surgeons, five pediatricians, five Ob-gynecologists and two orthopedics who would work full time at least 40 hours a week.
"I am pinning hope that I can in my simple ways make a little change or gradual transformation in this government hospital," the young surgeon stated.
When these plans are realized, better medical services will be extended to the growing number of patients flocking everyday to the provincial hospital.
Meanwhile, a basic workshop on radiography was recently conducted in Malita, Davao Occidental aiming to fully equip with the knowledge and skills the staff from the nursing and radiology departments of the provincial and district hospitals to effectively provide health services.
