DAVAO DEL NORTE – The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte is showing its all-out support to the school clean-up campaign of the Department of Education by launching the Oplan ANDAM cum Brigada Eskwela program.
Governor Rodolfo del Rosario will unveil the program at the Carmen Central Elementary School in Barangay Ising, Carmen, this province, on May 9, 2014.
Schools Division Superintendent Josephine Fadul, Mayor Marcelino Perandos, 1003rd “Raptor” Brigade Commander Col. Harold Cabreros, and Provincial Police Director PSSupt. Samuel Gadingan will grace the kick-off ceremony.
The special Oplan ANDAM cum Brigada Eskwela program will be conducted in 15 barangays in the months of May and June 2014.
The initiative will be held in collaboration with the local government units, the army, police and other important stakeholders of the Oplan ANDAM (Advocacy on Natural Disaster Awareness and Management) program of the province.
The province teamed up with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Department of Education and the local government units in implementing the convergence for peace, climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR), teaching communities simple technologies that will help them reduce their vulnerability and build their resilience to calamities.
Owing to the deep involvement of the DepEd in the CCA-DRR undertaking of the province, the governor deemed it auspicious to combine the program with the DepEd’s voluntary school maintenance drive this year, with the theme, “Disaster Risk Reduction, Preparedness and Safety in Schools.”
Various Oplan ANDAM services will be conducted alongside the school clean-up drive in order to ensure the tiptop shape of school facilities for the opening of the school year.
The activities include orientation on basic life-saving techniques, water sanitation and hygiene, river bank protection, bio-gas technology and botanical concoction, and earthquake/fire drills.
The governor said the new convergence effort will show off the Dabaonons undying passion for the ancient Filipino “Bayanihan” custom or spirit of communal unity and cooperation to achieve a common goal.(Noel Baguio-DavNor Info)
