DAVAO DEL NORTE, May 12 (PIA) - - - Josephine Fadul, schools division superintendent of the Department of Education (DepEd) stationed in this province, officiated today the installation of the newly hired 146 national paid teachers.
The newly installed teachers will be assigned to the 204 schools in the province, in which 68 will be for pre-school and elementary and 78 for secondary.
Fadul said in an interview that the newly hired teachers will fill in the inadequacy of teaching personnel in the schools within the province.
As of the previous school year, the division had 2,550 teachers with 1,870 assigned to pre-school and elementary and 680 to secondary.
Fadul revealed that with the new appointments, DepEd central office envisioned to have a zero locally paid teachers for this school year.
“However, the principal may still request to the respective local government units for local school board teachers if there is a significant increase in the enrolment,” Fadul said.
She added that the increase may be a cause of the tuition hike of private schools resulting to the transfer of their students to public schools or transfer from the disaster stricken areas.
According to the DepEd records, the enrolment for school year 2013-2014 numbered to 101,084, with 9,027 for pre-school, 68,101 for elementary and 23,956 for secondary.
Gay Taguiren, planning officer of Davao del Norte Deped, said that the enrolment is projected to reach to 103,000 students for this coming school year. (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
