Panabo to put up P 5-M fire sub-station

DAVAO DEL NORTE, Panabo City, March 21 – The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) Panabo City Station will put up another fire sub-station in Barangay Nanyo worth P 5-million.

In a phone interview, Fire Insp. Vilner Avillon, city fire marshal, said BFP Panabo is projecting to open the sub-station at the end of the year.

The sub-station of the city will strategically be located adjacent to the Barangay Hall of Nanyo, TADECO Road to provide access for  far-flung barangays of Panabo and to easily access water supply from a facility of the Panabo Water District, Fire Insp. Avillon said.

Avillon said that the substation in Nanyo is expected to reduce the  response time of rescuers to the accident-prone TADECO road which has been noted of many vehicular accidents.

“With the distance from the main station, our responders cannot immediately arrive and rescue the victims (vehicular accidents),” he said.

As he is planning to deploy a fire truck and an ambulance in the substation, Avillon is requesting the BFP regional and provincial offices to augment  the BFP Panabo personnel.

On the other, Fire Supt. Sydney Besana of BFP Davao del Norte Provincial Office said the Panabo sub-station will help not only the communities in Panabo City but also its neighboring municipalities such that in Carmen and in Sto. Tomas.

Guesting during the Kapihan sa Kapitolyo yesterday, Besana said Panabo local government conveyed gratefulness of the  two  fire stations.

The municipalities of Dujali and San Isidro in Davao del Norte have yet to put up fire stations in their respective areas.

When fire occurs in the two municipalities, Dujali will be covered by Carmen Fire Station, while San Isidro by Asuncion Fire Station.

Meanwhile, Besana encouraged everyone to practice fire-preventive practices at home such as using flashlights instead of candles and lamps when power interruption occur  at night. He also asked people to  properly put off cigarette butts before disposing them to trash bins. (PIA 11, Michael Uy/jmda)
