DAVAO DEL NORTE, Tagum City, March 18 (PIA)--- Tagum City-based cooperative becomes part of the national honor that its affiliate youth organization and its school teacher-partner recently reaped.
Tagum Cooperative was instrumental in making the Tagum Cooperative (TC) Youth Laboratory Cooperative ranked this year in the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) that some 500 nominees nationwide vied for.
On February 6, 2014 Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV of the Senate Committee on Youth, together with Secretary to the Cabinet Jose Rene Almendras handed over the Tayo Trophy to TC Youth Laboratory Coop Chairperson Reven Bryan dela Pena during the awarding ceremony held at the Heroes’ Hall in Malacanang Palace.
Among the judging criteria of the latest TAYO Search were project impact , 50 percent; harnessing the spirit of volunteerism, 25 percent; and creativity and innovation, 25 percent.
Tagum Cooperative Board of Directors Chairperson Miriam Baloyo said that Senator Aquino commended TC Youth Laboratory Cooperative for rolling out the Financial Literacy for the Youth Program, institutionalizing leadership values and financial management particularly savings and spending, and planning and budgeting.
TC Youth Laboratory Cooperative was organized by Tagum Cooperative in 2008 through Board of Directors (BOD) Resolution No. 1027, Series of 2008.
Tagum Cooperative established the branches of TC Laboratory Cooperative in Tagum City National High School and in Magugpo Pilot Imelda Elementary School, both in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
On the other hand, Tagum Cooperative Aflatoun Program coordinator, Elviera J. Paller received on Feb. 7, 2014 the “Aflatoun Teacher of the Year” award given by Coop NATCCO (National Confederation of Cooperatives) Network during the 1st Aflatoun National Summit held in Twin Towers Hotel, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila.
She ranked high in the six criteria of judging, namely, commitment in integrating Aflatoun lessons, active involvement in Aflatoun activities, number of children Aflatoun-members in class, number of Aflatoun-related activities initiated, number of years implementing the program, and living the Aflatoun Principle.
Tagum Cooperative Youth Program Coordinator Clyjeenee Dairo in an interview said Laureta Elementary School was one of the seven Tagum City-based public schools that Tagum Cooperative initially partnered with, to implement the Aflatoun Program in 2011.
Aside from Laureta Elementary School, 40 other Tagum Cooperative Aflatoun partner- schools in Panabo City, in Sto. Tomas and in Carmen, Davao del Norte; in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley; and in Davao City have adopted the program“to instil wise financial management and social responsibilities among children,” Dairo said.
