TAGUM CITY- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Davao del Norte Field Office is pouring in this year P 8.465 million development projects to five local government units in Davao del Norte through the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) process formerly known as Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) approach.
The projects are distributed in San Isidro with an allocation of P 2.66 million; Talaingod, P 2 million; Kapalong, P 1.615 million; Asuncion, P 1.19 million; and Panabo City, P 1 million.
In Region 11, Davao del Norte takes the biggest bulk from the regional project allocation of P10 million. The balance is distributed to the municipalities in Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.
The projects cover the development and improvement of existing agri-industries in the province such as making of banana flour and coco coir and production of Cardaba banana, Cacao, Rubber, Coffee and Bamboo.
The GPB funding will also include enhancement of Liyang basket and bags, and beadwork project for organized women, ethnic and youth sectors in Kapalong.
With these projects, the agency expects to improve the lives of more than 1,000 families as these will generate more jobs, sales and increase income of direct and indirect micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
DTI Davao del Norte Provincial Director Edwin Banquerigo convened on March 11 agencies involved in GPB to clear issues about the project implementation “since this is the first year that the DTI has been involved in the program.”
GPB is a program of President Benigno S. Aquino’s administration to reduce the incidence of poverty by 16.6% in 2015 through the involvement of grassroots organizations and communities in the planning and budgeting of development programs of participating national government agencies (NGAs) and government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).
